Happy Hills Training Camp Day 2 - 12.12.09

Mother Weather wasn't as kind to us today as she was yesterday. Despite the predictions of only scattered showers in the morning, we started this ride in the rain with only about 20 brave souls. The weather only continued to get worse and the group was concerned about being able to ride up the steeper sections. We lost a few riders at this point. The collective decision by the group was to climb Old Creek Road and head down SR-46. There was no wind in Cayucos, so this seemed like a good idea; Until we got to the top. The wind kicked up and reduced the speed on the usual 50 MPH descent to around 18 MPH! After turning south on SR-1, south of Cambria, the conditions weren't much better. The stiff headwind kept the speed down around 16 MPH. We lost three at Cayucos (they were staying there) but picked up two we lost earlier (they rode to Cambria & back). Everyone made it back to SLO in one piece, but a little wet after a five + hour rain ride. Maybe the weather will cooperate for tomorrow's ride.
